Linking Internet Sharer to Mac OS X

To automate the following instructions, consider purchasing the Internet Sharer Wizard.

Instructions

  1. Download Android SDK for Mac.

  2. Unzip to your hard disk.

  3. Enable USB debugging on your phone:
Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging (Tick)

  4. Attach your phone using the USB cable.

  5. Open a console window.

  6. Navigate to the tools directory of the SDK.

  7. Type chmod u+x adb

  8. Type ./adb forward tcp:1080 tcp:1080

  9. Type ./adb forward tcp:8080 tcp:8080

  10. Configure web browsers and Internet applications to use a SOCKS proxy server on localhost port 1080 and HTTP proxy server on localhost port 8080.
Repeat steps 4,5,6,8,9,10 whenever you need to access the Internet through your phone.

Sometimes Mac OS X refuses to use a configured SOCKS proxy if it knows there are no real networks attached. In most cases, specifying the HTTP proxy resolves this issue but you may encounter difficulties for HTTPS websites.
