Linking Internet Sharer to Linux

To automate the following procedure, consider purchasing the Internet Sharer Wizard.


  1. Download Android SDK for Linux.

  2. Unzip to your hard disk.

  3. Enable USB debugging on your phone:
    Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging (Tick)

  4. Attach your phone using the USB cable.

  5. Open a console window.

  6. Navigate to the tools directory of the SDK.

  7. Type chmod u+x adb

  8. Type ./adb forward tcp:1080 tcp:1080

  9. Configure web browsers and Internet applications to use a SOCKS proxy server on localhost port 1080.
Repeat steps 4,5,6,8,9 whenever you need to access the Internet through your phone.
