How do I start displaying announcements?

Please register to gain access to the JADS Digital Signage version 5.

What is required to run JADS version 5?

To display announcements, a screen must be connected to a computer running JADS display software.
JADS display software will run on any Windows, Linux or Mac computer with the Java Runtime Environment (5+) installed.  It is recommended that the computer has at least 1GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, and a broadband Internet connection.  Almost any computer will run JADS display software including miniature low spec PC's which are ideally suited to wall mounting besides large plasma screens.

To add announcements and administer a screen, any computer with an internet connection and a web browser can be used. Announcements can even be added from a PDA or modern mobile phone!

How do I add PowerPoint slides to JADS version 5?

  1. Highlight the slide you want to export in the Slide Sorter (the thumbnail view of the slides on the left hand side of the screen). If the Slide Sorter isn't visible onscreen, make it visible by choosing View > Slide Sorter from the menu.
  2. Next, choose File > Save As.
  3. Select a name for the file and change the Save as Type from .ppt to an image format like GIF, JPG or PNG.
  4. Click the Save button.
  5. After you click save, PowerPoint will display the option to export the entire slideshow as individual images or only the current slide.
  6. Follow the create announcement instructions to add the image(s) to JADS announcement sequence.
In the future, there will be a plugin for PowerPoint to perform this action with a single click.

How do I add backgrounds to plain text announcements?

  1. Create a new sequence named "Backgrounds for text".
  2. Add some images to the sequence.
  3. Ensure the "Backgrounds for text" sequence is set to display on the required screens.
The images in the sequence will be drawn behind plain text announcements. Make sure you use sensible images that do not obscure the text.

What are the advanced configuration options for JADS version 5?

JADS v5 display software contains a number of options for configuring how announcements are displayed on a screen.  Usually these will not require modification, however, for some installations it may be necessary.  Configuration can be modified within the user interface of JADS Server by clicking Reinstall, then Config and the relivant configuration name for the display software. JADS display software must be restarted for the changes to take effect.
